Fretlist for Bands

One shared library for the whole band. Every player reads it on their own instrument, in their own tuning, capo and key. At rehearsal and on stage, Follow Me keeps every screen on the same song, at the same spot.

One library for the whole band. Your own layer on top.

For bands, weekly jams, worship teams and uke clubs. Everyone plays from the same songs and setlists. Each member reads them their own way: their own instrument, capo and key.

A working song in a band workspace. The band key is C; you start in D, transposed up two. Change the transpose or the capo and the chords, your badges and your row on the Band panel follow. The Band panel lists each bandmate with the instrument they play on this song.

One band key, your own key

The song keeps the band's key. Transpose or put a capo on for yourself, and only your view changes.

See who plays what

See at a glance who plays which instrument on every song, and who sits one out. Set it up for the whole band before rehearsal.

My notes, just for you

Cues and reminders per song that your bandmates never see. They show in your Play Mode too. Up to 15 people per band, and members pay nothing.

“Very cool to have the personal notes option in a band. This is something I always missed on SongbookPro.”

“I love how Fretlist handles sharing songs. Providing a link is great. The ability to email from within the app is also pretty awesome.”

Whoever presses Play leads. Every other phone, tablet and laptop follows: same song, same spot, scrolling together. Each one still reads in its own key, capo and text size.

Dear John

Hi, I'm Dear John, a singer-songwriter from the Netherlands. I built Fretlist for my own gigs, and I still play every show from it.

There's no team and no investors. Every email and every fix goes through me. Tell me what's broken and you'll usually see it fixed within days. And if you have ideas to make it better, I'm all ears.

Frequently asked questions

What bands ask before they start.

Who can start a band?

Until 1 November, Bands is open by request: tap Request access and I set you up. Anyone can join a band they are invited to. From 1 November, anyone can start a band.

What does it cost, and who pays?

Nothing until 1 November: bands are free during Early Access, with no card needed. From 1 November, the Bands plan is €7 a month or €58 a year for the whole band, and your members pay nothing. Sign up before 1 November and subscribe by 1 December to pay half price for life: €3.50 a month or €29 a year.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. From 1 November, the first band you start is free for 30 days, with no card needed: enough time to invite the band, bring the songs in and rehearse together a few times. It does not turn into a subscription on its own, and nothing is charged when it ends. One trial per account. Until 1 November, every band is free anyway.

How many people fit in one band?

Up to 15 people, you included, in any mix of roles. Running something bigger, like a choir or a pool of session players? Mail hello@fretlist.com.

Do my bandmates need a subscription?

No. Members pay nothing to play in the band, and each of them keeps a free personal library of their own next to it.

Can everyone play in their own key?

Yes. The + and - on a song change only your own key; everyone else keeps the band's key. To play a song in another key for one set, a leader or member changes its key on the setlist, and the whole band gets it.

Can each of us use our own instrument and tuning?

Yes. Everyone sets their own instruments and tuning in Settings, and each song shows the chord diagrams for the instrument you play on it. A drummer or singer gets the song without chord diagrams or capo.

What can my bandmates change?

That depends on the role you give them. A member edits songs and setlists, a viewer reads everything, and a guest, like a session player sitting in on one gig, reads and plays but cannot copy the songs out. Everyone, guests included, sets their own capo, key, instrument and notes.

How does Follow Me work at rehearsal and on stage?

Whoever presses Play leads. Every other phone, tablet and laptop opens the same song and scrolls along, while each one keeps its own key, capo and text size. Every device needs internet: no venue WiFi? Use a phone's hotspot.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Songs and setlists are saved on each device, so Play Mode keeps working offline. Follow Me, and changing a bandmate's setup, need a connection.

Can I bring my own songs into the band?

Yes. On a new band's dashboard, Import your personal library copies or moves everything in, folders included. You can also copy songs in one at a time.

Are my notes private?

Yes. My notes on a band song are yours alone, whatever your bandmates' roles. They show in your Play Mode too.

What happens if the leader leaves?

A band always has one leader. They can hand the band over to someone else, or put it on hold: it becomes read-only and nothing disappears.

Do I keep my personal library?

Yes. Your own library stays yours. Switch between it and your bands from the menu under your name.

Bring the band. Rehearse and play from one library.

Free until 1 November. No card needed.
