Plans and limits: Free, Pro, and Bands

Every plan has every feature. The only difference is how many songs and setlists you can add. Free covers 50 songs and 3 setlists, Pro is €24 a year, and Bands is €58 a year for up to 15 people.

Every plan has every feature. Play Mode, offline, printing, exporting, sharing, chord diagrams, bulk import: all of it is on the free plan and none of it is behind a payment. The only thing a plan changes is how much you can add.

Until 1 November everything is free and unlimited, bands included. This page describes the plans from 1 November. A band set up before then gets its 30-day trial from that day.

The three plans

Free. Up to 50 songs and 3 setlists. No card, no time limit, and every feature.

Pro. No limit on songs or setlists. €24 a year, or €3 a month.

Bands. One shared library for your whole band, up to 15 people including you. €58 a year, or €7 a month, for the band as a whole. You pay; your bandmates pay nothing and do not need a plan of their own. Pro for your own library is included while the band is paying, and each extra band you lead is half price.

Prices are in euros, and no VAT is added on top. Payment goes through Stripe, and I never see or store your card details.

What a limit does, and what it never does

Everything you have stays yours. No plan ever hides, locks or removes what you've built. A plan only limits how much more you can add.

That sentence is the whole policy, and it is worth being precise about what it means. If you have 62 songs and your plan covers 50:

  • All 62 keep opening, playing, transposing, printing and exporting.
  • Every setlist keeps working, including on stage.
  • Nothing is deleted, hidden, greyed out or downgraded.
  • The only thing you cannot do is add song 63.

Go over a limit and you are not locked out of anything you made. You are simply at the end of what that plan holds, and you can carry on using everything already there for as long as you like.

What counts toward the limit

Songs and setlists you made or imported.

The starter songs Fretlist adds when you sign up do not count. They are there to show you what a chord sheet looks like, not to spend your allowance. That stays true even if you edit one and keep it: it still does not count against you.

In a band library, the band's plan covers the band's songs. Your own personal library is separate and counts separately.

Leading a band that is paid for includes Pro on your own library too, so both are unlimited. During the band's free 30 days that is not yet true: the trial covers the band's library, and your own stays on the free plan until the band has a plan.

Importing more than fits

Drop in a backup of 120 songs on the free plan and Fretlist tells you before it imports anything: how many fit, how many do not, and what happens to the rest. You choose.

Take the first 50 and the other 70 stay in the file on your disk, untouched. Nothing is lost and nothing is half-imported. Upgrade later, drop the same file again, and the 50 already in are recognized as duplicates while the remaining 70 come in.

If you upgrade from the import screen itself, the import carries on by itself once payment goes through. You do not need to find the file again.

Early Access and Early Bird

If you signed up before 1 November 2026 you are an Early Access member, and every paid plan is half price for as long as you keep using Fretlist: Pro at €12 a year, Bands at €29. Start any paid plan between 1 November and 1 December 2026 and that rate belongs to your account permanently, including plans you take out later.

Early Birds, the first fifty accounts, keep Pro free for life. Any band you lead is half price.

If you decide not to take a paid plan, nothing happens to your songs. Your account moves to the free plan and everything you have made stays exactly where it is.

Starting a band when you already pay for Pro

Bands includes Pro, so you should never pay for both. Set up your band and your Pro subscription stops renewing on its own. When the band is first paid for, your Pro ends and whatever is left on it is refunded to your card. You do not have to ask. Until then, including during a band trial, your Pro keeps running as before.

The first band you ever create comes with a 30-day trial, and no card is needed. Without a card it does not turn into a subscription by itself and nothing is charged when the trial ends. If you add a card during the trial, the plan starts when the trial ends, after an email a week before; cancel before then and you pay nothing. The trial is for the band's library: your own library goes unlimited from the day the band is paid for.

Cancelling, and what happens if a payment fails

Cancel any time. To leave Pro, open the plans and choose Downgrade to Free; to cancel a band, use Cancel on the band's Plan card in Settings. You keep everything you paid for until the end of the period you already paid: cancelling does not cut your access short. Changed your mind before then? Keep Pro undoes it.

If a payment fails, nothing stops working that day. You keep full access for 30 days while it gets sorted out. After that a personal library goes back to the free limits, and a band library becomes read-only: every song stays exactly where it is, everyone can still open, play, print and export, and paying again makes it editable. Nothing is deleted either way.

Getting your songs out

You can export everything, any time, on any plan, in formats that are not specific to Fretlist: ChordPro, plain text, Word, PDF, and a full JSON backup. That is true on the free plan and it stays true if you stop paying. See Print and export.

If you need something different

If a limit is in your way for a real reason, or your band is bigger than 15, write to me at hello@fretlist.com. Fretlist is one person and I would rather hear from you than have you work around it.
